"Be not afraid of learning slowly, be afraid of standing still"

Welcome to the Training & Development section of the Board of Community Health Councils in Wales.
Currently all training and development is for the benefit of the CHC staff and membership group on an internal basis only.
A dedicated training and development department for CHCs in Wales was decided upon as a consequence of the abolition of CHCs in England in December 2003. This was also the demise of the central support body known as the Association of Community Health Councils in England and Wales (ACHEW) who had historically been responsible for meeting the training and development needs of CHC staff and members in both countries.
The purpose of the Board Training & Development department is to provide effective training and support for all staff and members and promote continuous professional development of all CHC personnel. To this end there is:
- an open programme of training
- customised training
- development support
A training plan will be published every year based on training needs that have been identified from:
- CHC Performance and Evaluation Framework Reviews
- Personal Appraisal Reviews and subsequent Personal Development Plans
- Any external factors impacting on CHC core functions that may emerge
Every organisation has a responsibility to make the best use of their most valuable resource, their people, through ongoing workforce development.
The training and development remit is one within any organisation which encourages organisational development. The Board of Community Health Councils in Wales promotes such development through:
- encouraging CHCs to be great places to work
- encouraging CHCs to be dynamic Councils to attract and retain new members
- ensuring the organisation strives for continuous improvement
- embracing a culture of ongoing learning and development
The CHC staff and volunteer membership group should all demonstrate or aspire to demonstrate the necessary skills needed to undertake their role within the CHC organisation irrespective of their role or their years of service.
