Physiotherapy - Services Provided

Services Provided
Physiotherapy is provided through a wide range of services to people living in Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire, Caerphilly and Newport.
Physiotherapists across Gwent work in a variety of different locations such as Intensive Care Units, Childrens Centres, Consultant clinics, the community etc. We work with people with a broad range of conditions including mental health, stroke recovery, elderly care, sports injuries and after surgery.
We also have a selection of Information Leaflets available for patients and carers.
Inpatient services
In patients are people seen while they are staying in hospital on the wards.  The physiotherapist may treat patients at their beds or in some units there are specialist treatment areas available.  In patient physiotherapy covers a wide range of different conditions for children and adults. It may include:-
  • Rehabilitation (working to restore normal movement and function) following a stroke, head injury or other neurological condition
  • Rehabilitation after surgery especially orthopaedic surgery such as knee and hip replacements
  • Rehabilitation for a medical condition.  There are many long term conditions that people can normally manage themselves but may need some physiotherapy help during periods of particular ill health for example during an acute chest infection
  • Respiratory problems.  Physiotherapists can help people manage their breathing problems by teaching effective clearance of secretions, managing their shortness of breath and encouraging physical activity
Outpatient services
Out patient departments offer treatment for a variety of healthcare needs including:-
Back, neck, hands and other muscle and/or joint disorders
Neurological conditions e.g. Multiple Sclerosis, stroke
            Vestibular (balance) disorders
            Women’s Health
Also working with adults with learning disabilities
Attendance Policy Information for Patients
When patients cancel appointments at the last minute or do not attend without informing the department, physiotherapy time is wasted and this impacts on other patients, resulting in growing waiting lists and longer waiting times for everyone.
  • If you do not attend for an appointment without informing the department in advance you will be discharged.
  • If you contact the department and inform us you are unable to attend you may be rebooked.  However if this happens a second time you will be discharged.
  • If you fail to attend your appointments on multiple occasions you will be discharged from Physiotherapy.
If you are unable to attend for your appointment please contact the Physiotherapy department, as soon as possible, on the number below.  If given enough notice we may be able to offer the appointment time to someone else.
