In 2011, 3496 mothers used the maternity service centred in In 2011, 60 mothers chose a home birth. 621 Mothers chose to give birth with the midwifery led service on B5. 2725 Mothers chose to give birth on the main labour ward with a team of midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists and neonatologists. A birthing pool will soon be available on the main delivery unit. Midwives in the community deliver antenatal care, mainly from G.P. practices, postnatal care in women’s homes, and a home birth service. Hospital based midwives work with obstetricians to provide a full range of services including antenatal care – both in-patient and out-patient, care during labour and birth, and postnatal care in the ward setting.
