Maternity Services - Royal Gwent Unit, Newport
 
From the 1st December 2011, visiting times for partners / named birthing supporter will alter through the maternity wards. Your partner or one named birth supporter' s visiting hours are 9:00am to 8:00pm. Please contact the ward for details of the ward's protected meal times and quiet times as partners and named birth supporters will be asked to leave the ward area for these periods.

In 2011, 3496 mothers used the maternity service centred in Newport. View the mothers comments on their experiences.
 
In 2011, 60 mothers chose a home birth.
 
621 Mothers chose to give birth with the midwifery led service on B5.
 
2725 Mothers chose to give birth on the main labour ward with a team of midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists and neonatologists.
 
A birthing pool will soon be available on the main delivery unit.
 
Midwives in the community deliver antenatal care, mainly from G.P. practices, postnatal care in women’s homes, and a home birth service.
 
Hospital based midwives work with obstetricians to provide a full range of services including antenatal care – both in-patient and out-patient, care during labour and birth, and postnatal care in the ward setting.
 
Obstetricians hold joint clinics with physicians for mothers with epilepsy and diabetes.
 
The Royal Gwent Hospital has a level III neonatal unit.  The unit has the whole package of neonatal care including intensive care, but does not have neonatal surgery.

1:00pm - 2:30pm Ward closed, quiet time
3:00pm - 5:00pm Open visiting
6:00pm - 7:00pm Ward closed, protected meal time
