The All Wales Codes of Conduct and Codes of Practice have been developed in recognition of the important contribution made by Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) to the delivery of health and social care services. HCSWs are defined as all staff working in clinical and non-clinical roles.....
The Codes were introduced for all HCSWs commencing employment from 1st February 2011, as well as those transferring within NHS Wales and within NHS Trusts and Local Health Boards from that date. By March 2012 it is an expectation of the Welsh Government that these Codes are brought to the attention of existing HCSWs and their managers.
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to provide an assurance framework for public protection through:-
- Guidance and support to HCSWs on their practice, so that they understand what standards of conduct employers, colleagues, service users and the public can expect of them.
- Development of this key workforce.
The Code of Practice for NHS Wales’ employers is an important assurance mechanism, supporting the employment of HCSWs in Wales. Employers should be familiar with the Code of Conduct and ensure staff are supported to achieve the standards it contains.
Over the next few months, information about the codes will be disseminated throughout the Health Board in a number of ways, for example:
- induction programmes and continuing development study days
- updating at existing forums/meeting groups
- drop in sessions and workshops
- access to electronic copies
- quick reference guide and frequently asked questions
