Burns Outreach Service

Burns Outreach Service

Our aim is to provide the highest quality of care for all children and adults referred with burns, scalds and other skin loss conditions.

The Welsh Centre for Burns provides a burns service to South and Mid Wales.  It is the lead adult burn service for the South West UK Burns Network and as such will also accept referral of complex adult burns from South Wales as well as from the South West of England.

The service offers advice and conservative management (treatments that do not involve surgery) to treat scars.

Managing scars can involve the use of silicone and/or pressure garments to help prevent or reduce hypertrophic scarring.  Scarring can take around two years to mature so treatment can continue during this time.  Scars can not be removed but these treatments can help to reduce itch, pain and sensitivity and leave scars flat, soft and supple.

Further Support Groups

The Welsh Dragons Burns Club is run by a committed group of volunteers.   One of the most difficult things about being a burn survivor or having a permanent scar is feeling that you look different to everyone else. One of our key aims is to provide ongoing support to those children and their families by building confidence and self-esteem, and helping to develop networks of friends who share similar experiences.

Dan's Fund for Burns, the registered burns charity was established by Polly Miller after her husband Dan, best friend and seven other friends were killed in the 2002 Bali bombings. Polly was badly burnt herself and learnt first hand just how painful and devastating, both physically and emotionally, it is to be burnt.

Changing Faces is a charity for people and families whose lives are affected by conditions, marks or scars that alter their appearance.
