Morriston Hospital

Did you know that the majority of people (77%) in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend are non-smokers?

Want to join them? We can help! If you are thinking of quitting smoking and would like support please call Stop Smoking Wales on 0800 085 2219 or visit www.stopsmokingwales.com.

Our hospitals are smoke-free environments

Most smokers respect other patients and visitors and don't smoke outside our hospital entrances or in our grounds. If you smoke, please be just as considerate and don't light up. All our hospitals are smoke-free, which means smoking isn't allowed in buildings and grounds, including car parks and entrances. Thanks for your co-operation and respect for others!

Morriston Hospital has around 750 beds, the majority of which are housed in modern accommodation that has been built since 1981. There are Acute General Medical / Care of the Elderly (including medical sub-specialties) facilities; a well developed Trauma and Orthopaedic service and a range of General Surgical / Urological specialties.

The range of specialist tertiary services provided at Morriston Hospital now includes Renal Medicine, Neurology and Neurosciences, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery and the second Cardiac Centre in Wales. Rheumatology and Palliative Medicine are also provided to a wide catchment area. These services are supported by critical care facilities, including a 16-bedded General ITU and HDU and a range of specialist beds.

Morriston Hospital is also the site of the major Accident and Emergency Department for Swansea and, with its accessibility to the South West Wales population, is recognised as the Major Trauma Centre for South West Wales.

There is a paediatric unit with two teams caring for children undergoing plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery,  orthopaedics, trauma and general medical paediatrics. The unit has a 4-bedded HDU caring for children with complex needs and there also a small outpatients department.

Please note: Children's Wards and the Paediatric Assessment Unite were moved from Singleton Hospital to Morriston Hospital in August, 2009. Click on the following link for more information: Children's wards at Morriston Hospital

A full range of high quality diagnostic and therapeutic services are also provided at Morriston.
