A £2,800 thank you for good service

Tuesday, 21 August 2012
A friend of two former stroke patients has raised £2845.11 for Ward F at Morriston Hospital as a thank you to the staff.

Alun Donovan, 56, from Swansea, wanted to show his appreciation to staff for the care his two friends, Mike Allchurch and Adrian Jones, received when they both suffered strokes.

A charity dinner was held at the Langland Bay Golf Club, with more than 100 friends of the ex-patients turning up. There was an evening of karaoke and entertainment, along with an auction and a raffle, with prizes such as golf days at the Celtic Manor.

“The care Mike and Adrian received was fantastic. Everyone was amazed and delighted by the improvements made by them both. Thanks for helping our friends out, both are now back to their daily routine.

“We would also like to thank the contributors of the auction items and raffle prizes.”

Barclays donated £750 of the money as part of their Matched Fundraising Scheme, which doubles funds raised through charity events up to the value of £750.

Alun presented the cheque to Dr Mushtaq Wani, Consultant in Stroke Medicine, at Morriston Hospital, who said: “We are very grateful for this generous donation. Thank you very much to everyone who helped towards raising money for the ward.”

Ward F, Ward Manager, Linda Elt, added: “We will use the money to get anything we need to better the ward, such as monitoring equipment, physio equipment and specialist chairs.”
