A new rehabilitation ward at Singleton Hospital will soon welcome patients from Hill House Hospital.
Ward 4 at Singleton Hospital has been completely redesigned and refurbished ready for the transfer of patients from ward 2 at Hill House Hospital. The new 30 bed elderly care rehabilitation ward has been transformed and is now a modern and comfortable place for patients to stay and for staff to work.
The closure of Ward 2 at Hill House Hospital is part of a phased closure of the hospital. A number of services currently remain there, including the children's therapy centre and the Rehabilitation Day Unit for the Elderly and associated clinics. These services will transfer sometime during 2013.
Sister, Liz Thomas has worked in Hill House Hospital since 1981 and with her team will soon be moving to the newly refurbished ward 4 at Singleton. She said: “From the planning stage right through to today staff and patients have been involved in the best layout for the ward along with the equipment required, nothing has been overlooked.
“I must say a big thank you to the architects and builders; they have been excellent always on hand to clarify details, always involving us.
“The ward is taking shape and it looks fantastic, I’m really pleased, we still have a few more days before the transfer of patients from Hill House so it’s all hands on deck.
“The patients are going to love it here; they have a day room, TV room, fabulous state of the art baths and hoists to help patients be more independent.
“We will miss the gardens at Hill House Hospital; however patients will now have the opportunity to take their visitors to the Café for a cuppa and a chat or pick up a newspaper from the shop.
“Everything is on hand here; we have direct access to occupational therapists and physiotherapists, which will really help patients with rehabilitation. Also on site are social workers, dieticians, pharmacy, opticians and the audiology department to list just a few.
“We’ve always had close links with staff at Singleton Hospital and we are looking forward to building on those links to provide patients with the best care available.
Patients from ward 2 at Hill House Hospital are due to move on Tuesday 24th July.
