Congratulations from the Department of Surgery and Surgical Directorate
A special message from Consultant Surgeon Mr Nick Carr:
"It is with great pleasure that we announce the Chair in Surgery for John Beynon, who joined The Department of Surgery in Swansea in 1993.
He graduated from Guy's St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College (1980) and then gained his higher surgical training in England and Wales, before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Wrexham, North Wales(1991).
John then decided that he wished to move to Swansea and was appointed in 1993.
John's appointment allowed the department to move forwards clinically and foster the clinical workload, but it also catered for John's academic interests. From the beginning of his taking up post in Swansea, he was determined to base surgery on scientific principles and not intuition. John is also a magnificent teacher and there are many consultant colorectal surgeons who have benefited from his teachings.
He was entirely responsible for the various research grants that the department received and indeed has supervised many higher degrees. He is also an editor for The British Journal of Surgery, which attests to his academic excellence. John will prove to be a worthy addition to academic surgery,not only in Swansea, but also the Nation. It is only by his efforts of him that John has been proved to be so successful.
We wish him every success in this new chapter of his professional life."
