An ABM worker who donated bone marrow to a young Bratislava man he has never met is overjoyed to discover the transplant has been a success.
During February, Princess of Wales Hospital staff member, Gavin donated his bone marrow to help the man, who was suffering from leukaemia.

This week Gavin, a theatre support worker, went back to the Welsh Blood Unit for his six month check-up.

He was told that his stem cell donation has been huge success for the recipient.  The young man is very grateful and had made a full recovery.

Gavin, who lives in Kenfig Hill, said:

“This is excellent news, I am relieved and happy that this young man has had a second chance in life and extremely proud of what I have done and so are my family.

“I would encourage anyone to do the same; like I said before Welsh blood is the most sought-after blood in the world.

“Welsh blood is the best and as they say, every little helps”.

Gavin has fully recovered from the bone marrow donation procedure.
