Maternity Services at Withybush Maternity Unit Pembrokeshire County
Pembrokeshire Maternity services have teams of midwives who work in the community. Each community midwife is responsible for a group of women and their families. Antenatal care is provided in a variety of settings such as GP Surgeries or hospital setting. There is one Sure Start Midwife dedicated for women who require more additional social support.
Community Midwives also provide care for women having home births, and are available to give advice to women throughout their pregnancy.
Choice of Place of Birth
Women identified as having no risk factors who are having a normal pregnancy are able to choose where they want to give birth.
The options are:
- Home birth
- Waterbirth in the Home or Hospital Environment
- Consultant Led Unit Withybush General Hospital
Women requiring additional care during pregnancy, labour or birth may be advised to consider giving birth in the Consultant Led Unit. When considering the best option for you, speak to your community midwife who will provide information that will help you in making your decision.
