Public Health Wales website statistics for January 2012 published

Thursday, 16 February 2012
Data collected by Google Analytics on how visitors interacted with the Public Health Wales website during the first month of 2012 are now available.
From 1-31 January 2012 the English language version of the website recorded 9,125 visits from 5,894 different visitors resulting in 32,428 webpages being viewed; a respective 28 per cent , 20 per cent and  48 per cent increase on the preceding month. On average, visitors viewed four pages per visit and spent nearly three minutes on the website. Ninety per cent of our visitors were from the UK with 51 per cent (of the total) from Wales.
The number of visits during January 2012 is eight per cent lower than the number during January 2011 with the greatest difference recorded for the first week in January (see figure 1). During 2011, this week corresponds to when influenza activity in Wales was high which led to increased traffic to information about influenza on the Public Health Wales website. In contrast, flu activity has been minimal so far this year and hence far fewer visitors have come to the site to seek information about flu.
