Q. How will I be affected by any change of service?
A. We are discussing the needs of the community and how services could be delivered with a wide range of people from different services and with community groups. No decisions have been made yet. When the project begins to make recommendations, if changes are proposed, there will be a consultation period.
Q. Will I have to travel further in the future to access services?
A. We know that people prefer to be treated at home or nearer their home, rather than go into hospital. We want to provide services that are closer to home, where it is safe and right to do so. Some services would need to be provided more centrally however to make best use if resources. If there are any changes there will be a consultation.
Q. What will happen to the Royal Alexandra Hospital?
A. The services provided at the Royal Alexandra Hospital are valuable to the community. We need to decide how the services can best be delivered. The beds at the Hospital had to close in 2009 because of fire safety concerns, and a new service was set up to look after people who might otherwise have used the hospital. This is called the Home Enhanced Care Service. More details can be found at our Home Enhanced Care Service page. We need to decide what the needs are of the population of both Rhyl and Prestatyn for community beds.
Q. Does this mean that Prestatyn Community Hospital will be closing?
A. No decisions have been made about Prestatyn Community Hospital. The community values the hospital and the staff provide good care for patients. However we need to decide what the needs are of the population of Prestatyn and Rhyl for community hos pital beds in the future. If there are any changes proposed there will be a formal consultation.
Q. Is this project about saving money?
A. No – this project is about making sure that services in North Denbighshire are fit for the future and can best meet the needs of the population. We know that the financial situation is very challenging. This means that we have to use resources in the most effective way, and services will need to be affordable. But the purpose of the project is to design the best services for the locality not to save money.
Q. How does this project fit with other reviews in the health service that I have heard about?
A. This project isn’t directly linked with the major service reviews which you may have heard about. We will however consider the implications of other service reviews on the North Denbighshire project – and vice versa.
Q. Why are we looking at Rhyl and Prestatyn together?
A. Rhyl and Prestatyn are major areas of population that have some similar needs and are already linked together because of services which cover both areas.
