Ivor engineers safety lesson for Rhyl pupils

Denbighshire primary school pupils have handy knowledge of how a major building development on their doorstep is being carried out safely thanks to a visit from an icon of the construction industry.
UK building industry mascot Ivor Goodsite took time out from working with colleagues on the Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Redevelopment project to greet Rhyl Christchurch School pupils.

Ivor, developed by the Considerate Constructors Scheme to help children understand the importance of safety on and around building sites, delivered his thoughts on the dangers presented to children who may attempt to play on or around building sites and how safety plays a key role in getting through the work required as part of the ongoing hospital redevelopment.

Helping Ivor teach the pupils, aged from 7-11, top safety tips was Colin Chong, Project Leader from Lang O’Rourke and Health Board Business Case Manager Darren Smith.

“Ivor joined our project team to help us get the message across to youngsters about the scale of the project we are carrying out at the hospital and also how important it is that all of our team follow health and safety rules on such a busy and bustling building site,” said Darren

“The children were very interested in Ivor’s role and I hope that they are now better equipped to understand the level of care and safety that goes on behind the building site hoardings you can see here at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.”
