Friday, 27 January 2012
A new art exhibition has opened at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd

Continuing its exhibitions programme bringing art into hospitals Helfa Gelf/Art Trail is touring this showcase exhibition from its initial location at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.

The exhibition was curated by Martin Barlow, former director of Mostyn|Wales|Cymru. It showcases art from across North Wales and shows the wonderfully diverse cross section of artists that the Helfa Gelf Open Studios project has to offer.

Sabine Cockrill, project coordinator for Helfa Gelf told us:

“This initiative is part of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board`s Arts in Health & Wellbeing programme, in which the arts are used within healthcare, to promote wellbeing and to improve community relations and communication.  We are very excited to be part of this and hope by facilitating these exhibitions we are able to help enhance the experience people have when visiting and working in hospitals and to give them a positive impression.”

This exhibition will remain at the hospital until the end of March 2012 at Oriel Clwyd Gallery restaurant on the ground floor. It is a partnership between the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Arts in Health & Wellbeing programme, Helfa Gelf/Art Trail and Mostyn|Wales|Cymru.

Adrian Thomas, Assistant Director of Therapies and Health Science for Betsi Cadwaldr University Health Board, said that:

“This exhibition is the first of five that are coming to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd thanks to the support of Helfa Gelf, local Arts Development Officers and artists willing to let us exhibit their work. We have another four exhibitions planned for Ysbyty Glan Clwyd during 2012-13 bringing a varied range of arts into the hospital.

“We are also working with Laing O’Rourke, the developers on the site, on a number of projects including one to develop a community project creating artwork for the wooden hoardings around the building site areas during refurbishment of the building and another looking at how art becomes integral to the refurbished areas”

The exhibitions planned for 2012/13 are:

2012  April/May/June – Rhyl Photographic Society

2012 July/Aug Sept – The Welsh Group. A selected exhibition of work from well established professional group including many leading artists from across Wales.
