NHS Bursaries

Welsh Government press release (20/10/11): New NHS student bursary arrangements
Updates will be posted as received.

The NHS Wales Student Award Unit implements the NHS Wales Bursary Schemes, which provides funding for healthcare students on NHS funded courses in Wales and Welsh domiciled medical and dental students within the UK.

If you are considering a professional career in health care and would like to know more about the financial support you will get during your training, then the following information is for you. The information and guidance is for students who start an NHS funded health professional course from 1 September 2007 onwards, (the increases in Bursary rates and additional allowances also apply to existing NHS funded students). This guidance cannot cover all individual circumstances, and you may need to get more details from your college - that is, the institution where you plan to study.

For further information please take a look at our handbook below.

Note: The NHS Wales Childcare Allowance is based on 85% of the actual registered or approved childcare costs up to a maximum amount.  For one child the maximum payable is £126.65 per week.  For two or more children the maximum payable is £209.95 per week.  However, every childcare allowance is calculated individually and the amount awarded will depend on your circumstances and the income available to you and your family.
