Clinical Coding Training
NWIS is currently responsible for funding and organising a national programme of clinical coding training on behalf of all Welsh Local Health Boards and Velindre NHS Trust. The training available includes the core training that all clinical coders must undertake – e.g. foundation training for newly appointed clinical coding staff, refresher training for established coders and revision courses for clinical coders wishing to undertake the National Clinical Coding Qualification exam. Specialty-specific workshops and courses are also available; these cover the clinical coding standards of particular specialties and/or disease areas (e.g. cancer, ENT, Trauma & Orthopaedics) in more detail in order to improve the knowledge of Welsh clinical coding staff in these areas.
The national training programme is currently being delivered by D&A Consultancy Ltd. D&A offer a full range of training courses and workshops, using HSCIC Clinical Classification Service approved materials and also their own specialty-based courses that conform to national standards and support the continuous professional development for all clinical coders.
Please see the Clinical Coding Training Schedule for a list of the training courses currently available to NHS Wales clinical coding staff.
NWIS Training Feedback
We encourage detailed feedback from delegates on all training courses, whether positive or negative. We use the information received to help us improve all aspects of the training service we provide.
Our Evaluation Form is emailed to every delegate or their manager after completion of a course.
Please send all completed forms to your Clinical Coding Manager, who should forward this onto us via firstname.lastname@example.org.
