About Aberbargoed Hospital

Aberbargoed Hospital has twenty-eight beds and provides a service for General Practitioner, Respite and Continuing Care patients.

District Nurses, School Health Nurses and a Community Paediatric Nurse are also based at the hospital. The Community Mental Health Team (Bryn Golau) share the hospital building.

Getting there:

By car:

From the South / M4
  1. take exit 28, west of Newport onto the A467 north
  2. after a mile, at the roundabout, bear right keeping on the A467
  3. continue for about 6 miles to the roundabout near Crosskeys, at the junction with the A4048
  4. turn left onto the A4048 and continue to the roundabout at the junction with the A472, just after Wyllie
  5. turn left onto the A4048 and continue west for a short distance to the next roundabout at the junction with the A4049
  6. turn right onto the A4049 and continue north towards Aberbargoed
  7. on approaching Aberbargoed pass the New Duffryn Public House on the left
  8. after about 200 yards the Bedwellty Nursing Home is on the right
  9. turn right into Pant Street, immediately after the Bedwellty Nursing Home, and then turn right again, into Aberbargoed Hospital
From the North / Heads of the Valleys Road (A465):
  1. take the A469 south off the A465 at Rhymney
  2. continue south on the A469 to Tirphil, just north of New Tredegar
  3. continue straight on, (now on the A4049) and continue south to Aberbargoed
  4. go straight through the traffic lights at the junction with the B4511 in Aberbargoed
  5. shortly after this junction the Bedwellty Nursing Home will be on the left
  6. turn left into Pant Street immediately before the Bedwellty Nursing Home, and then turn right into Aberbargoed hospital
From the East / West (A472)and Caerphilly:
  1. from Caerphilly, travel north on the A469 to the junction with the A472 at Ystrad Mynach
  2. leave the A472 (Usk / Treharris) near Pontllanfraith and travel north on the A4049 to Aberbargoed
  3. on approaching Aberbargoed pass the New Duffryn Public House on the left
  4. after about 200 yards the Bedwellty Nursing Home is on the right
  5. turn right into Pant Street, immediately after the Bedwellty Nursing Home, and then turn right again, into Aberbargoed Hospital
By Bus. Bus number 002 from Bargoed (Hanbury Square) to Merthyr Tydfil Bus Station runs through Aberbargoed. It operates hourly between 6:30am and 6:25pm, Monday to Saturday

Car Parking:

Car parking in the grounds of the hospital is very limited. However, additional free car parking is available at the end of Pant Street about 100 yards from the hospital.

  • Two comfortable lounges where patients have access to television, video, radio and a music centre
  • A quiet area
  • An overnight room for relatives
  • Hospital library
  • Portable telephone for patients to make outside calls
  • Hospital Chaplain visits weekly, arrangements can be made for other religious leaders to visit
  • Local newsagent provides newspapers and sundries on request
