Meet the Faculty: Dr Jackie Austin

Jackie has been Consultant Nurse for Heart Failure Services in Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust since 2004 and is also an honorary lecturer at the University of Glamorgan. She has many years of experience within general intensive care, cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation. After completing her RGN training at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, she then specialised in general intensive care and cardiac nursing. In response to a lack of provision for patients recovering from myocardial infarction and heart surgery in the early 1990s, she instigated the multi-disciplinary North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation programme. The programme was accredited with The Royal Institute of Public Administration Kings Fund Award in 1992 and the Charter Mark in 1998. For services to Cardiac Rehabilitation, Jackie received an MBE in 2003. The ongoing evaluation of the Heart Failure Cardiac Rehabilitation programme based at Neville Hall Hospital, Abergavenny was awarded a BHF Excellence Award in 2005.
