The Faculty
The Faculty for Healthcare Improvement was launched in 2007, with the first work priority outlined as leading and driving forward the 1000 Lives Campaign. Members successfully provided the senior improvement expertise and clinical knowledge to lead the implementation of the Campaign’s content areas.
With the transition to the 1000 Lives Plus programme, Faculty members will provide the clinical and managerial expertise for the new programme areas in Wales.
The Faculty will remain focused on improving patient safety and the quality of care, aligning it with the over-arching aim of reducing waste, harm and variation in NHS Wales. Three key streams of work will be prioritised:
- Knowledge: Providing the leadership and clinical expertise for programme areas within 1000 Lives Plus, and endorsing new areas of work.
- Measures and metrics: Driving the support for Medical Directors in the setting and delivery of local targets for the reduction of mortality and harm, and endorsing new measurement for improvement methods and approaches.
- Capability: Contributing to the design and delivery of a Leadership and Quality Improvement Training Programme, creating reusable materials and training Faculty members to teach elements of the programme.
