The Bowel Screening Wales programme was first announced by the Minister for Health and Social Services in February 2007.
It is being funded by the Welsh Assembly Government at a cost of £5.3 million this year rising to £8.7 million in 2014/15.
It's being run by the Welsh Bowel Screening Centre in Llantrisant and is part of the screening services division of Public Health Wales, who currently run other national screening programmes including Breast Test Wales and Cervical Screening Wales.
