Funding

Finding, attracting and sustaining funding is a common problem faced by initiatives when trying to get a project off the ground. Follow-on funding can also be a significant issue for well-established projects.

This web page contains information about sources of funding which incorporate both nutrition and physical activity and those aimed specifically at either nutrition or physical activity. The information provided includes contact details, what is funded, who is funded and how much can be applied for.

Talking to other projects and organisations that are running similar projects in other areas can be of great help, they have already been through the process and are often very willing to share their experiences, visit the community initiatives database. A section is included in this web page where partners can share information about what funds they have used and their experiences.

Tackling Poverty Small Grants Fund

The Tackling Poverty Small Grants Fund is available to organisations across Wales. The new Fund incorporates the Communities First Trust Fund and the small grants scheme that was previously available via the Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP).

This new grant fund will be available from April 2013.

The Health Challenge Wales Voluntary Sector Grant Scheme 2013-2015

The Minister for Health and Social Services has approved a new bidding round for the Health Challenge Wales Voluntary Sector Grant Scheme.

The grant scheme aims to strengthen sustainable health improvement in Wales by supporting projects developed and delivered by national voluntary organisations. It seeks to develop the capacity and capability within the voluntary sector in Wales, to work in partnership with the Welsh Government and will contribute to the delivery of policy priorities within the Programme for Government for promoting health and wellbeing.

Funding will be available for a maximum of 4 years. An initial period of 2 years grant funding (2013-14 to 2014-15) will be offered, with an option for the Minister for Health and Social Services to extend the funding by a further 2 years, subject to progress.

Under the 2013-15 funding round, proposals will be welcomed that respond to the Programme for Government’s commitments to:

  • Promote healthier lifestyles for pregnant women, which have a positive impact on them and their family’s health.
  • Encourage and support individuals to lead healthy lifestyles by encouraging physical activity and a balanced diet, and discouraging people from risky behaviours such as smoking and excessive drinking, to decrease those at risk from cardiovascular disease (including coronary heart disease and stroke), cancer and diabetes.
  • Support the creation of a healthy hospitals initiative or a healthy colleges and universities initiative.
  • Encourage and support employers to develop and implement workplace policies on the specific health issues addressed by the Corporate Health Standard and the Small Workplace Health Award and/or equality issues such as domestic abuse and mental health, in order to support staff, tackle sickness absence and retain employment.

There will be a 2 stage application process. Stage 1 will obtain the core details of proposed projects to enable the Assessment Panel to undertake an initial evaluation and select projects to proceed to Stage 2. Those projects selected to go forward to the second stage will be asked to provide in-depth details of their projects on the Stage 2 application form.
