St Cadocs' Library Guide
9.00 - 5.00pm Monday to Friday
The Library is situated at the front of the hospital, on the first floor. It can be accessed by the stairs on either side of the main corridor.
Staff of Aneurin Bevan Health Board, students on placement within ABHB, Gwent area GPs and dentists and staff are welcome to join the library. Readers are requested to register with library staff on their first visit.
There are 3000 books and reports arranged in the Royal College of Psychiatrists classification scheme.
They are in the fields of: psychiatry, psychology, learning disabilities, clinical effectiveness, health management and research methodology.
The Catalogue is available on
Cardiff University and NHS Libraries Voyager Catalogue
There are 25 current journals in the fields of: medicine, health management, psychiatry, psychology, nursing and clinical effectiveness.
Back issues are shelved in alaphabetical order around the library.
Copies of the list of holdings for St Cadoc's are available.
Journals must NOT be removed from the Library.
Up to 6 books may be borrowed for 4 weeks. They may be renewed twice, but it is necessary to respond to overdue notices.
There are six networked computers with access to the Internet, plus one Wyse terminal.
HOWIS (Health of Wales Information Service) resources giving access to databases, including Medline, PsychInfo and some eBooks and eJournals.
Please note : Access to HOWIS is only available to NHS staff
The links to Athens, Databases and Journals have now moved from HOWIS to a site specifically for this information entitled The NHS Wales e-Library for Health at http://www.wales.nhs.uk/elibrary
A number of other useful sites have been made 'favourites' on these computers to make exploring the web more effective.
Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel and Powerpoint have also been installed.
All printing is sent to the photocopier in the library.
Books and journal articles not held in the library can be obtained by library staff from other libraries both local and national. These are supplied in about a week.

Videos and DVDs
There is a small collection which can be viewed in the library or borrowed for one week.
The Librarian is happy to provide help at any time or tuition on a one to one or small group basis, on any of the facilities in the library.
Recommendations for addition to the library are welcome.
Services to Staff at other Health Board sites
Requests for information, documents, books and searches can be handled by telephone/fax/email, once initial contact has been made, by visiting and registering at the library.
