Advice on Travelling Abroad

AeroplaneIf you are travelling abroad, you may require extra immunisations.  In order that we can organise these we need to know the full details of your travel plans.  We need to know when you plan to travel and your destination, also whether or not you plan to stop over at any other countries.  To do this please will you can collect a travel questionnaire from the surgery which needs to be completed and returned to us at least 8 weeks prior to travelling.  You will need to have a questionnaire for each member of the family who will be travelling.

We need at least 8 weeks minimum so that we can:

  • check your whole medical record for previous immunisations
  • check your travel itinerary and visit appropriate websites for immunisation requirements
  • order appropriate vaccines
  • book appointments - some vaccines need to have multiple immunisations to be fully effective
  • allow for staff shortages - remember our team take holidays in the summer too so please book early

Our clinicians need to satisfy themselves at all times that they are practicing safely - they may not always be able to give you the immunisations you need all on the same day.  It is your responsibility to ensure you have given plenty of time for the vaccines to have maximum effectiveness

The basic travel imms are free of charge.  However the fee for administration is £15.00.
