Institutional Approval - Partner College Status
In conjunction with the University of Glamorgan the tLHB has successfully gained Institutional Approval - Partner College Status.
This status will allow the tLHB to take forward an education and service development programme on an integrated basis.
There are two distinct aspects to this:
- the internal training of staff to ensure they are equipped and skilled to meet the challenges of their roles and;
- a structured approach to the provision of clinical training for primary care staff, designed to improve the quality of care and develop models of care that reflect acknowledged best practice.
As a tLHB, having our own capacity to deliver accredited training will benefit us in a number of ways:
Issues of access
Partner College status would allow the tLHB to provide more locally accessible courses. Both Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taff LHBs are responsible for areas of significant economic and social deprivation and this will allow us to continue to target issues of inequality and access.
Issues of Ownership
Partner College status would allow the tLHB to be in a position where it can respond flexible to local need, in a format that meets the needs of local practices. This could include formally accredited courses, training days, facilitated educational and learning networks, or joint clinical educational sessions with other national organisations.
Economies of Scale
In many instances the courses run by individual organisations would not be sufficient in number to make it viable. The tLHB can help solve this problem with its integrated approach.
What will it mean for me?
