The Welsh Eyecare Initiative (WECI) is unique to Wales: Within the WECI there are 3 types of eye examinations/ assessment that are available, depending on the patient:

1.   A Primary Eyecare Acute Referral Scheme (PEARS) eye examination - for any patient with an acute eye problem.

2.   An Eye Health Examination - an extended eye examination for selected groups of patients.

3.   A Low Vision Assessment- for any patient who has sight loss that cannot be ameliorated by glasses, contact      lenses or medical treatment.
