Cardiac Disease National Service Framework for Wales

The Cardiac Disease National Service Framework (CHD NSF), the key policy document for the delivery and development of cardiac services in Wales has now been published by the Welsh Assembly Government accompanied by a letter from the Health Minister Edwina Hart, setting out expectations for tackling cardiac disease by 2015.

The original CHD NSF published in July 2001 was updated to an interim version in 2008 and now appears as a brand new updated document.  The updating process involved a wide range of health care professions and invited patient representatives to contribute to the development of each of the Standards.  The Cardiac Disease NSF which you will find below has seven Standards:

Standard 1 - Promoting healthy hearts
Standard 2 - Managing risk factors for cardiovascular disease:
Preventing further heart damage in those with high risk factors or established disease
Standard 3 - Managing the care of patients with coronary heart disease
Standard 4 - Managing the care of patients with chronic heart failure
Standard 5 - Managing the care of patients with arrhythmias and families of young victims of cardiac arrest
Standard 6 - Providing cardiac rehabilitation
Standard 7 - Managing the care of adults with congenital heart disease
