Task Group

The All–Wales Task Group for the Welsh Language in Healthcare Services was formed in response to the recommendations contained in the Welsh Consumer Council’s report, Welsh in the Health Service (2000).  The Task Group was formed in 2001 by the then Minister for Health Jane Hutt AM, and chaired by Ann Lloyd, Director of NHS Wales.

The Task Group managed to raise awareness within the health servicesof the importance of providing bilingually.  It commissioned research work into  Welsh Language Awareness in Healthcare Provision in Wales (2004) and also produces a language awareness training pack for the health service - Iechyd Da.  It was through the Task Group's work that the annual Welsh Language in Healthcare Conference and Awards were established.

Task Group 2007

The Task Group was re-established in 2007 and changed its membership and terms of reference to look more specifically at implementation and quality of care to patients.  It was also decided to look at social services provision as well as health.  The Task Group is chaired by the Deputy Minister for Social Services and you can view the membership here.
