TWOGS - Trainees in Wales Obstetric and Gynaecology Society

Welcome to all O&G trainees in Wales

Dear midwives & trainees,

I can finally announce that our summer TWOGS study day will be yet again a joint study day with midwives and doctors.

It shall take place on Monday the 17.6.2013 in Llangattock.

As last year's study day in Llangattock was a big success and we are still keen on improving our interdisciplinary relations, we will again carry out a Teamwork and Leadership Event with a changed programme in the same location.

When do we ever get the chance to go outside and spend a few hours in the sun? This is your chance for fun and games, make a fire, prepare food, go for a treasure hunt and compete in an Egg catapult contest.

Please apply via charityjadeknight@hotmail.co.uk, the cost for the course (including food and prizes) will be 40£.

Hope to see as many as last year!

Florian

PS. Planning for a summer party are still ongoing and I shall update you asap.

PPS. Good luck for all part II OSCE participants!

Dear trainees,

thanks for making our 2nd gynae anatomy study day such a success.

The next months will offer a variety of study days - make sure that you can attend as many as possible (remember the 60% attendance for your ARCPs).

On this note, for summer this year, TWOGS is planning a joint obstetric/midwifery study day out in the open again. This will be followed by a party a day or so later.

Further details will follow in the near future.

Cheers,

Florian

PS. Good luck for all of you taking part I or II in March.

Dear trainees,

Please not a few addendums for our anatomy study day on the 22.2.2013.

Could you indicate your interest in attending a course dinner at 6pm in Red Hot in St. David’s in Cardiff? Please tell us whether you are coming / may be coming / won’t be coming for sure! Please write to dr.florian.drews@googlemail.com.

On the day you will need a sketchpad and a pen as we will have an artist attending our sessions who will teach medical drawing. Unfortunately, our trainee budget does not allow buying one for everybody. As a guide, she suggested the following material (but do feel free to bring what you have):

Gerstaecker Spiral Sketch Book - A4 - Portrait

Pitt Artists's pens are good drawing pens and avoid charcoal dust or pencil shavings!

Last but not least and actually the MOST IMPORTANT:

In order to make this day more successful and more directed towards your learning needs, Mr. Lim has asked for everyone to email us YOUR TOP 3 EXPECTATIONS from this course.

Please again, write to dr.florian.drews@googlemail.com.

That’s it for now.

Regards,

Florian

Re: Parking
There are a number of public car parks within easy walking distance of the University - those in Dumfries Place (accessed via St Andrew's Place) and North Road may be the most convenient.  Additionally, an on-street pay and display parking system operates in some streets surrounding the University campus.  This typically costs around £3.50 for five hours.  Payment is by coin or debit/credit card.  Parking in the North Road car park is £5.00 per day (charges for city centre multi-storey car parks vary considerably, up to £12 per day).

With the new year being well underway now, it is time to start thinking ahead to the rest of this year's rotation. This involves in particular the planning of our next TWOGS study days. Should YOU have an idea of what topic you would like to be organised, do not hesitate to contact us.

As several committee members have left TWOGS, we invite everyone with an interest to become involved in trainee matters to come forward and apply for a position on our TWOGS committee. Ideally, every hospital should have a trainee representative.

Please email us on dr.florian.drews@googlemail.com with details of your training, your current post and why you would like to be part of the TWOGS committee.

The TWOGS team.
