NHS Wales e-library for health - Internet edition

NHS Wales e-library for health is an online service for NHS Wales professionals. All those working within NHS Wales are eligible to access available resources.

New eJournal Titles and NewsBank Database

Due to circumstances beyond the supplier's control, up-to-date versions of the following eJournal titles will not be available from 01 January 2010 [access to archive issues will remain in place]: Evidence-Based Gastroenterology, Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing, Journal of Gerontological Nursing and Journal of Nursing Education.

Informing Healthcare has procured replacement titles. These are: Cancer Nursing Practice, Emergency Nurse, Journal of Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing, Learning Disability Practice, Paediatric Nursing, Nursing Older People and Nursing Times.

Effective from 01 January 2010, NewsBank, a new online newspaper service will replace the KnowUK and NewsUK databases. View details.

Map of Medicine

The Map of Medicine is a clinical pathways tool developed to assist healthcare professionals with decisions via evidence-based knowledge. Procured by Informing Healthcare, NHS Wales staff are licensed to use the tool.

Many resources can be accessed without the need for a username and password if you are using a PC connected to the NHS network.

If you are accessing resources outside the NHS network / direct on the Internet, you will need an NHS Wales Athens username and password.

08 Feb 2010 Genetics behind ageing probed

Genetic tests to determine how quickly a person will age may soon be available, according to several newspapers. The news is based on the recent discovery of a genetic variation that apparently predisposes some people to faster ageing. The newspapers suggest the research may lead to the easier identification of people at higher risk of age-related illnesses or suggest a possible key to longer lifespan.
