Children & Young People's Specialised Services

 Welcome to the Children and Young People's Specialised Services (CYPSS) Project Website.

On 23rd October 2002 in the Health and Social Services Committee at the Welsh Assembly, the Minister for Health and Social Care at that time, Jane Hutt, announced the future for the delivery of specialised health services for children and young people in Wales.

A review of specialised services for children and young people was carried out by the Specialised Health Services Commission Wales (SHSCW) now Health Commission Wales (HCW).

As a result of this review and the public consultation that followed the future delivery of children and young people's specialist healthcare was agreed for Wales using Managed Clinical Networks (MCN’s).

Following this the Children and Young People’s Specialised Services Project was established with a remit to;

 Develop high quality, equitable and sustainable specialised children's health services across Wales based upon the best available evidence and with children and their carers at the centre of all planning and provision.

This would be achieved by the following aims:
  • To develop services specific standards for specialised healthcare services for the children and young people of Wales
  • To enable equity of access through effective managed clinical network models for all children and young people in Wales requiring specialised services.
CYPSS standards are designed to build on and be used in conjunction with the Children's NSF.
