Welcome To Bridgend Local Health Board
Our Mission "To work with all concerned to ensure people receive a first class health service, whenever they need it, and to help everyone to lead a healthier life." Our Vision "That within a decade, the health and well-being of the people of the County Borough of Bridgend will be among the best in Wales."
The Local Health Board is made up of a number of Directorates which include healthcare managers and professionals, along with administrative support. The Directorates work together and in partnership with other organisations to secure better health and health services in the County Borough of Bridgend. Our meetings are held in public – YOU ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Details of LHB public meetings can be found on the Board Meeting Dates page. Who are we and what do we do? Bridgend Local Health Board (LHB) was established on 1st April 2003 by the National Assembly following the abolition of Iechyd Morgannwg Health Authority. It serves a population of around 129,000 people within a geographical boundary which is coterminous with that of Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC), with whom it shares statutory responsibility for the implementation of the Health, Social Care and Well-Being Strategy. The Board is served by non-executive, executive and associate members drawn from the local community. The Board is led by its Chairman who was appointed by the Minister for Health and Social Services at the National Assembly. The Board brings together the skills and experience of doctors, nurses, dental, optometry and community pharmacy professionals, lay people and representatives of local government and the voluntary sector. Their purpose is to shape and improve the quality, delivery, accessibility and co-ordination of the health and social care services provided to the residents of Bridgend County Borough. The Board’s primary responsibility is to ensure that its investment of resources secures a pattern of services, which provides the optimum health outcomes for the people it serves. Consequently, one of our first decisions was to state our mission: to work with all concerned to ensure people receive a first class health service, whenever they need it, and to help everyone to lead a healthier life.
