'Working in partnership to improve the health and wellbeing
of the people of Blaenau Gwent'
Our website aims to provide information and resources for patients, visitors and health professionals. We hope you find this website interesting and informative. We will benefit from the interest and support of the public and it is hoped that this website will increase patient and public involvement, so that together we can improve health and wellbeing in Blaenau Gwent.
A Local Focus on Health
Blaenau Gwent Local Health Board was established on 1st April 2003, as part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s reorganisation of the NHS in Wales. It is a statutory organisation, made up of representatives from a range of organisations and community interests from within the County Borough. It is chaired by Marilyn Pitman and comprises a range of health care professionals. The LHB includes representatives of the County Borough Council, voluntary organisations, community groups and lay members. Joanne Absalom, Chief Executive, leads the team of staff who undertake the day-to-day activity of co-ordinating the work of the organisation.
Blaenau Gwent LHB will:
work with local people and partner organisations to improve the health of our population
involve local people in our work, allowing us to understand their health needs and to ensure that we secure quality health services that respond directly to their needs
be accountable to local people for the funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, which we will be using on their behalf to secure local services
be an open and accessible organisation, with Blaenau Gwent residents having every opportunity to be informed of our work and to become involved; public Board meetings will be advertised in the local press.
Organisations who independently review health and social care in Wales have agreed The Concordat, a set of objectives and practices to support the improvement of services for patients, service users and carers, and eliminate any unnecessary burdens of external review.
