Supplementary Prescribing Roadshows

The Welsh Assembly Government is hosting three roadshows to promote Supplementary Prescribing in Wales, and you are invited to attend at the venue of your choice.

Roadshows will be held in South, West and North Wales and will run from 1.00-3.00pm with a buffet served at 12.30-1.00pm.

Monday 24 November, Kinmel Manor, Abergele
Monday 1 December, QED Centre, Treforest
Wednesday 3 December, Halliwell Centre, Carmarthen

The programme will cover:

· What is supplementary prescribing?
· Background and progress in Wales
· How supplementary prescribing can benefit the NHS
· Who can become a supplementary prescriber?
· Roles and responsibilities of supplementary prescribers
· The role of the independent prescriber in supplementary prescribing
· Training
· The application process for Welsh Assembly Government funded training places

The roadshow is suitable for all those responsible for planning or managing services where prescribing is involved, clinical governance officers and prescribing leads, as well as those doctors, nurses and pharmacists likely to be directly involved in supplementary prescribing.

Ask About Medicines Week (AAMW), 12th - 18th October 2003, is a high profile, UK initiative to help promote partnership in medicine-taking between medicine users, carers and health professionals. As front line health professionals, AAMW offers GPs and pharmacists an opportunity to make use of their skills and expertise in advising the public on their medicine taking.
