'Protected Time Initiative' - Nursing Times Award Nomination
Charge Nurse Richard Griffiths of the Bryngofal Unit at the Prince Phillip hospital site, hopes the project will repeat its success at the other units within the division where it is being rolled out.
The project consists of protected time and goal orientated framework which aims to improve and increase patient staff communication. Engagement is an issue of prime importance in mental health nursing; it is an evidence-based approach enabling therapeutic interaction to take place in ward settings.
The Bryngofal unit was the pilot site for the project, which has now been instigated across the mental health division, the project is part of an ongoing process, which is part of a broader drive to both develop and recognise excellent engagement practices.
"We are very proud to be short-listed for this prestigious award. The success of the project has been down to hard work and commitment of all the staff. We have seen a difference in how the ward operates and have received many positive comments from people who use the services."
