The National Service Framework (NSF) for Children, Young People and Maternity Services sets out the quality of services that children, young people and their families have a right to expect and receive in Wales. Its scope includes all children and young people from pre-conception to 18th birthday, for whom NHS Wales and local social services authorities have a responsibility.


Action on food and fitness for children and young people

Helping and supporting children and young people to manage their care can reduce the early onset of the complications of diabetes, blindness kidney failure, neuropathy, vascular disease resulting in amputation of lower limbs, cardiovascular disease, in early adult life.
A National Child Oral Health Improvement Programme, Promoting Better Oral Health and Delivering a Fluoride Supplementation Programme. 

 

National Health Promotion Initiatives aimed at Children

The Smokefree class competition is open to year 7 and 8 pupils in Wales.

 5x60 is about younger people getting active for at least 60 minutes, 5 x a week.

Sun safety is essential for babies and children.

 


Services

Service Planning

The Health Needs Assessment document has been created by HIAT to assist local health partnerships with the 2006 round of health needs assessment in preparation for their Health, Social Care and Well-being (HSCWB) Strategies.


Service Delivery

The aim of the Children & Young People's Specialised Services project is to develop high quality, equitable and sustainable specialised children's health services across Wales based upon the best available evidence and with children and their carers at the centre of all planning and provision.


Offers tailored interventions to meet needs in relation to a child’s health and development  

Antenatal Screening Wales is funded by the National Assembly for Wales to support improvements in the standard of antental screening offered to women.

Cervical Screening Wales is responsible for the NHS cervical screening programme in Wales

The overall objective of the Newborn Hearing Screening programme is to identify babies with hearing impairment which is of sufficient severity to potentially cause a disability without the introduction of habilitation in infancy.


Resources

CARIS is the Congenital Anomaly Register & Information Service for Wales.
CARIS collects information about any fetus or baby who has or is suspected of having a congenital anomaly and whose mother is normally resident in Wales at time of birth.

The report promises to improve the health of future generations by ensuring our children are given a good start in life.
 
This All Wales Strategy is a ten year programme aimed at establishing comprehensive, effective and high quality services across Wales
 

The purpose of the initial phase of the project was to document the existing child health data items, definitions and data flows.
