They do not cover private work carried out by dentists nor dentists working in the hospital or community dental service.

The Community Dental Services release presents a summary of the activity of the Community Dental Service (CDS) in Wales. Activity is summarised in terms of contacts patients make with the service, the types of treatments provided and additional services offered.

The 2003 Children's Dental Health Survey, commissioned by the four United Kingdom Health Departments, is the fourth in a series of national children's dental health surveys that have been carried out every 10 years since 1973 in England and Wales and in the whole of the UK since 1983. The main aims of the Adult Dental Health survey 1998 were to establish the clinical condition of natural teeth and to investiage dental experiences, dental care and oral hygiene.

Statistics available via the link below include the number of Courses of Treatment (CoTs) and numbers of clinical treatment items in Wales for quarter 3 and quarter 4,

The Welsh Oral Health Information Unit (WOHIU) provides information on oral epidemiology to Welsh Assembly Government, which is used to inform the development of health and wellbeing policy. This service supports and conforms to the All Wales Dental Epidemiology Protocol. The cyclical survey process means that in any one year the WOHIU is data processing the data from one survey and planning for the next survey. The Unit continues to co-ordinate an integrated team approach towards quality assurance. Collaborative work associated with the process of data collection and analysis informs changes to the survey protocol, training and calibration exercise, data collection format and process, data verification and data cleaning processes. In addition to the epidemiological information, data from several ad hoc research projects have also been utilised.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the Government department that provides statistical and registration services for England and Wales. ONS is responsible for producing a wide range of key economic and social statistics which are used by policy makers across government to create evidence-based policies and monitor performance against them. Data presented in this report include data from the Adult Dental Health Survey (1998); the Child Dental Health survey (2003).
