1000 Lives Plus
Making patient safety a priority
1000 Lives Plus is the programme which is taking forward the work of
the 1000 Lives Campaign which ended on 21 April 2010.
The name and branding for 1000 Lives Plus seeks to build on the reputation and success of the previous Campaign.
What is 1000 Lives Plus?
- 1000 Lives Plus is a five year safety programme which supports Health Boards and Trusts in their efforts to reduce harm, waste and variation in Welsh healthcare.
- The interventions introduced by the 1000 Lives Campaign continue, ensuring that they are embedded in every organisation. These will include the work on eliminating hospital acquired pressure ulcers, assessing patients for risk of DVT and ensuring the WHO Safer Surgery Checklist is implemented in every surgical theatre.
- New interventions will be added in 1000 Lives Plus, which will include work to enhance recovery from surgery, reduce errors in patient identification and falls in the community.
- If an intervention has been implemented successfully, then every patient has the right to expect to benefit from it wherever and whenever they receive their care in NHS Wales,
